Entitled "Eons Of Obsidian"

The night sky stretches for eternity I see the dimples of my ancestor’s smiles
What will become of me?
Will my star shine bright like the others?
Will my dreams have a chance to soar like Michael Jordan or Vince Carter?
Why do I feel the safest at night
maybe the pitch black obsidian backdrop of America
Understands my melanin more than I do
It cradles me like love does a child
Amongst the cosmos I ask
My heavenly father to keep my heart pure
Amongst the stars is my refuge
My soul and aspirations know no boundaries
I remind myself “black don’t crack“
Only glass ceilings do
I wonder for how many eons black boys have had dreams
To be more than the blocks that they live on
I wonder for how many eons
Bunches of black boys just missed their ticket to success
I wonder for how many eons the beautiful mahogany eyes of brown sugar moms
Filled with tears as they release their black sons to this vicious world
I wonder for how many eons for the black boys that did punch their tickets to success
Did they ever stop having pride in them self
When they were faced with adversity
I hope I make it to the finish line
In the relay race of my lineage hopefully
I do not lack one ounce of stamina
Hopefully I know that within myself I am enough
As my eyes gaze upon the night sky full of eons and eons of my obsidian ancestors
I will have a chance to ascend amongst the stars
Just like the ones who came before me
Hopefully for eons and eons to come they will remember the name
