Clothes on the floor
Endless tubs of make up everywhere
Half drunken water bottles represent more than her thrust for knowledge
They are an indication of life’s exhaustion
“I’ll clean it tomorrow” is what they tell themselves
Scared to hear the key that their
Sad song life continuously plays in
Still they move about in this mess
Like they move about anything in their life
With Grace and elegance
Even though they may stumble over
The unseen trauma hidden under their bed sometimes
When they are ready to leave that dreary room
You would never have any idea
That the space they inhabit is a bottomless pit of sadness
Only able to be presentable in the presence of strangers
“Being lost “ in life is not something they don’t want to be labeled as
Black women have enough stereotypes
To conquer on a daily basis
When they finally do have energy
To clean their messy room
The smallest thought can stifle their momentum
A small tear trickles down there eye
As they regress back to square one
Maybe they’ll try again tomorrow
Beaten down by the leather belt of life
They weep and sulk in loneliness
Tubs of cookie dough ice cream
Is there only remedy nothing else will do
The days between one shower to the next
Gets longer by the minute
These girls in their messy rooms still need to live
The hands of time do nothing to sooth their aching souls
Dealing with hecklers on a daily basis
All the world is a stage
Their insecurities are displayed front and center
As family members throw rotten tomato words
At their resilience it takes them so long to muster
Why do the prettiest girls have the messiest rooms?
Simply it is not because they are messy, or negligent
It’s because no one ever taught them how to clean up their life properly
So before any man, woman, or child
Has anything to say to the pretty girls with messy rooms
Make sure you offer them some cleaning supplies
Because self-care is too expensive
Especially when you’re from the hood
